Choosing whether or not your student gets involved in extracurricular activities can be a big decision. Being involved in activities allows your student to further develop critical life skills that will benefit him as he approaches adulthood.
Notable benefits include time management and prioritizing, long term commitments, raising self esteem, and building relationships. Of course, extra curricular activities look great on college applications and gives the impression that active students are responsible and well-rounded.
Each year our 4th - 8th grade students compete in an oratorical contest, spelling bee and geography bee. Competitions take place within the grade level as well as between grade levels.
An extension of our art program, the Art Club meets throughout the year to create student favorites such as glass fusion and clay.
Students meet once a week to practice, play and learn the game of chess in a relaxed and fun environment.
Introducing students to the fun of science through hands-on interactive experiments, adventures, and entertainment. The curriculum allows students to experience how science works in the real world -- presenting programs in a nurturing, encouraging environment where students build self-esteem while learning. Middle school students have the opportunity to sign up for video game design while lower school students may participate in a discovery science program.
A marine biology program developed by marine scientists and educators, that takes advantage of the natural fascination students have with science and the ocean. Knowledge development, hands-on-learning, experimentation and creative activities are interwoven into each fun-filled session.
Our precious girls twirl, spin and dance away as they learn ballet, jazz and tap. Routines are showcased in recitals performed during the school year.
The Atlanta Academy Middle School Debate Team has established a true tradition of success, winning the North Metro Middle School Debate Championship the past 8 of 10 years! Debate participants learn methods of researching topics, how to organize and compose their material, teamwork, public speaking and critical thinking skills, plus how to examine facts on both sides of an issue. All of these skills are beneficial not only for the Middle School, but also in high school, college, the workplace, and throughout everyday life. Our goal is to have our members gain confidence, learn about a variety of current topics, and become more confident as public speakers.
LEGO Education (LE) combines the motivational advantages of LEGO education sets with award-winning software and standards-based activity packs that integrate math, science, and technology into engaging hands-on classroom projects.
The Atlanta Academy Stock Club is a dynamic extracurricular program offered to our middle school. The club participates in the largest ongoing, academic competition in the state, which is sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education. The Stock Market Game (SMG) is an online stock trading simulation competition where teams buy and sell stocks with a hypothetical $100,000. During the competition, which lasts 10 weeks, students are taught basic investment strategies, how to research stocks, computational skills, interpreting graphs/charts, and how to problem solve to make group decisions.
Teams of middle school girls become technology entrepreneurs by developing a mobile app that helps that solve a real problem in their local community. The teams work together to research, design, and build a mobile app prototype. They then pitch their ideas to technology industry leaders to receive feedback and ideas from these professionals.
